Review on AmazonBasics Rooftop Cargo Carrier Black by Matt Kucrud

Expensive uniform got wet

So I'm in the military with a paid small hatchback so it wouldn't be wise to buy a big car. and I made the move when I had my dog and other valuables with me that I didn't trust the movers in my car. I figured this rooftop cargo haul would be efficient for the job. After reading the reviews, someone mentioned that this works for cars without roof racks or grab bars (this is WRONG. The straps that come with it are NOT long enough to buckle into your car.) I got the MacGyver solution done and off I went . 3 hours and that's it, 3 hours to my new home. It rained like a beast most of the way. I arrived at my new home and started unloading, and the contents of my cargo bag were soaked. Not even from the side of the zipper, but from the other side. I made sure the weather flap was securely fastened around the entire seam so nothing could be seen. I decided to put pillows, blankets and some uniform items in this bag. Maybe it's my fault but it was advertised as waterproof. About $700 of my uniform items were ruined by nasty rainwater and road grit, plus $390 cooling gel pads. I am angry and suffering financially because of it. It's my own fault, but still. DO NOT buy this if: 1) you plan to store something important to you and/or 2) your car does not have a roof rack or rails. .

Pros
  • Waterproof and fade resistant protection from dust, sun, wind and rain
Cons
  • So far so good
