This is an inexpensive substitute for name brand products but doesn't seem to be as effective. Perhaps it's the blue mesh that can reduce airflow through the filter and slow down evaporation. When the original factory filter was new, I went through a tank of water every night with the fan running at high speed. As this filter became clogged with minerals from the water, water usage was reduced to a full tank every three nights. With one of these filters I have the same performance as with the old, clogged factory filter. It raises the humidity from 30-40% to over 50%, which is barely enough for my needs. The value is still relevant to me as I was looking for factory filters of 2 for $20 so I would be reluctant to change them very often. At 6 for $20 I can leave a new filter in even if the performance isn't perfect.
