I have owned Launch gear for many years. They've always had their good and bad points, but as a Mercedes technician I've found their products to be a worthwhile investment for me. The X431 Creader is a major advance in launch technology. It looks like most of the bad stuff has been fixed and a lot of good stuff has been added. Features: The tool works fast! I also have a Benz Star laptop with DAS and Xentry, so I'm comparing the Creader to that standard. It loads quickly and the auto lookup by vehicle VIN is excellent. (No more typing in VINs! Hooray!) Dive into the ECU and look for trouble codes, live data or errors in much less time than with other scan tools. The tool is easy to use. The menus are well thought out and, as Mac/Apple users say, "intuitive". You don't stand around and think about which window to select next or how to interpret the instructions. The tool is powerful. As far as I can tell, the tool does everything that makes my laptop faster. The graphics function works quickly and precisely. Activations happen without hiccups or long delays. Choosing a data stream is extremely easy and fast. The instrument connects to the network and quickly provides extended DTC data from the Internet! I think I'll really like the Mall feature that allows you to add additional proprietary software. This tool allows me to access the Internet directly without being connected to a laptop and download the manufacturer's software packages. It's great and allows me to buy only what I need, like liberty insurance! I'm starting to work with some Teslas and this tool will support the Tesla software package so it's a full featured Tesla scan tool too! The screen resolution is excellent and I can adjust the brightness on the service CD to be visible in sunlight. Criticism: The tool is not wireless, it is still tied to the ALDL with a cable. On the other hand, I've used Bluetooth tools in a "noisy" store environment and had trouble dropping connections due to all the radio interference, so that's a trade-off. On the other hand, with a cord you don't forget your key! It might be a matter of personal preference, but I would prefer to attach the cable to the base of the instrument rather than the top. It could also stand a little longer. Conclusion: If you service Mercedes, you must own this tool. Fast and fully featured, you can take it to your driveway or service center and do the same things you would with a DAS laptop. I also think you can't beat the price. The updates are really easy. You can sleep at night knowing there is still a year or so to go to market as this is an established company with an established reputation and an ongoing commitment to supplying equipment to Mercedes' independent service trade.
