I take US size 12 men's shoes, I ordered XL which is one size down and fits well. A size larger would be acceptable for swimming and probably other active water sports. I would like the opening around the ankle to be smaller, I can fit 3 fingers in before the excess material is sucked in, there is plenty of stretch after that - at least the straps close the opening well to prevent water entry and bloating when swimming . Oh, with these straps, the rectangular portion that the strap wraps around and pulls to fit snugly around the ankle often rotates 90 degrees, allowing for extra slack. Perhaps the manufacturer should use a ring instead to prevent this, it doesn't render the straps useless. although. As long as I want, the forefoot vent has a versatile feel like a sock, not cut like a shoe—about 3/8 inch of material stays between the big toe and pinky toe. To be fair I have other socks with the same cut. I like that the outsole isn't too thick or wide, although some might prefer it differently. I used them when swimming in cold water, they helped to avoid numbness and leg cramps.
