Most FreeSync displays correctly drop to around 48 Hz for GPU-heavy scenes. However, this HP only drops to 60Hz, which means that FreeSync will not work correctly at the most common framerate: 60. You see, most games will "freeze" at around 60fps, but no game will be perfect. The frame rate can be lower or higher than 60 during the game. For this reason, any FreeSync/Variable Refresh display SHOULD allow frequencies below AND above 60Hz (the 48-75Hz range is common on cheap monitors). If the display can't offer this variation in 60fps games, the FreeSync feature is useless. This is such an incredible oversight on HP's part that I suspect these monitors are a faulty batch sold differently. No competent engineer would ever name a variable refresh rate display with this range as it is useless for the most common gaming frame rate: 60. So don't waste your time with a mediocre display with bad IPS glow and useless FreeSync function. Instead, buy one of LG's cheap gaming displays with the best variable refresh range.
