It is a very good idea to do this so you'll handle this properly. I wore long sleeves, gloves and wet mine thoroughly before applying it to make sure the fibers didn't go airborne. I used this to wrap the cast iron exhaust manifold on our car which had cracked in several places and didn't want to mess with possibly breaking a manifold bolt trying to remove it.
