Your needle will slide through the hole one size larger and stop at the correct size hole. It's well made, with smooth edges, and it's charming and makes me happy. Darning needles, braiding needles and stitch holders are all of good quality. don't like scissors. They are cheaply made and the handle broke on the first try to use them. The blades also don't converge smoothly, so they don't cut the yarn well. I actually bought this set for the thickness of the yarn and cable needles, so I'm not worried about the scissors being junk.
