Exactly the material I wanted - something like cork rubber. Installed correctly, it works perfectly.
The replacement filter kit I bought included a rubber grommet. I threw it away and bought this gasket. This is exactly the stuff you need for this application. Do not use sealant. Make sure the oil pan and transmission are 100% clean. Save yourself the headache and get an inch/lb torque wrench, tighten in three increments in a criss-cross pattern starting at the center of the straight edges. Welcome back!
