Review on Ultimate Security on the Go: RockyMounts Hendrix Compact Folding Bicycle Lock by John Destruction

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Super cool and fully functional.

I have combination locks and a U-lock to secure my bikes - a Diamond Back mountain bike and a Coleman motorized tricycle. U lock is the standard for me to feel secure and combination locks are for when I go swimming after cycling and don't want to take the key with me. The style may be a while ago, but I've never seen a castle quite like Hendrix. From the moment you open it you can tell it's a solid piece of engineering. From mounting to a frame with rubber stops, to the keyhole cover, to extending the key cylinder, everything confirms your choice of this lock. To be honest, every buyer is going to need this when buying a brand they are unfamiliar with or a type of lock they don't know or trust. My bike doesn't have holes in the frame so I used industrial grade velcro to attach the lock to the bike. Once fitted, simply insert the lock, close the rubber clasp and you're good to go. I don't like taking anything with me when I ride a bike because I usually swim in a natural spring and although I have a small hip bag for my driver's license and credit card I don't want to put the key in there the key doesn't rust etc. In this situation I make an exception (because the lock is so damn cool and I don't see anyone doing it) and slip the key into a zip pocket and slip it into my butt pack. Overall I found the lock to be easy to install on the bike (with my modified mechanism) and easy to remove and use. In addition, there is no need to worry that the lock will pop out while driving or get stuck in the holder on the back of the car. The only thing for me would be that I wish there were more links in the lock loop to make it longer. Being a bit shorter than Rockmount's Lester combo coil cable means I can't easily tie my bike to anything I park next to, but then again this has never been an issue. Also, I actually travel with Hendrix, Lester, another reel combo cable, and a fourth cable to lock the detachable seat. My claim is that it's not as long as I'd like, it's definitely more flexible than a traditional U-lock, but for me if it were a little longer I might be able to travel with one less lock. Bottom line if you're reading this review it's insanely cool and solid as a rock to get a lock. You will love the look and the sense of security.
