, I noticed a review that mentioned that prior to registering and downloading major software and vehicle updates, information was emailed to make the product work. This does not apply to the version X431 V+ (upgrade) just received. They may have increased their security, but I was able to register the device immediately using the serial number and activation code that came with the product. I believe the activation code was the key to registration which the fakes don't have. In other words, if a reputable factory created a serial number, they also matched it with an activation code to prevent others from using fake serial numbers. This product and the seller are legal. The X431 V+ is a quality product that can do almost everything you need.
