Review on πŸ“ Dahle 508 Personal Rotary Trimmer: 18-Inch Cut Length, Self-Sharpening Blade, 5-Sheet Capacity - German Engineered Paper Cutter by Carla Anderson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for cutting one larger paper at a time. Exactly what I was looking for.

I did a little research before purchasing. I have cutters for various things, but I wanted a straight cutter that could cut larger paper without spending a fortune. $36 was worth trying. My first problem was that I thought I needed a large base for the paper, but turns out the area is large enough to make it lighter and easy to clean. Secondly I haven't used rotary cutters and seen things saying you need to get bigger ones for this but this one seems pretty damn good with a really clean cut for cutting individual sheets, and I can go back and cut the thinnest of papers if I didn't get it close enough. Third, there were some concerns in reviews about alignment or not cutting where it should have been, but others said there was an adjustment. I can see where this could be a problem if you have to get there by a hair's breadth. I'll admit I wasn't that close, so I don't mind, but it seems pretty close. I haven't messed with the setting because I don't need it that close. You'll definitely need a lighter room if you really want to line it up perfectly, as the clear stripe can make the cut line a little hard to see, but over time you'll learn where to cut and you won't have any trouble trimming . more if you need it, unlike my guillotine cutter which could fold the paper (if held incorrectly) rather than cut it. I've also seen a video where placing a light on the bottom edge can show you where to cut and if I ever need to be that close I can see it. The fourth problem didn't really bother me, but I checked it anyway. People have commented that this is not good for multiple hands and I agree. If you want to cut multiple sheets of paper "exactly" the same size, I would use a different cutter or be prepared to cut them all individually. OTHER THINGS I like. I love how the paper stays in place while cutting. I still hold it when I go to cut, but other cutters can still move the paper, these I have tested and you can cut with one hand if needed. The paper is held in place with a rod and knife. I also like how light it is, yet it stays where you put it. My guillotine cutter takes practice to move, but this one can be quickly picked up and moved with one hand. Even though it's designed for larger paper, it's easy to hide because it has a thinner base. For all of these reasons I would say when in doubt I think this is a good buy.
