Review on ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ Revolutionize Your Printing Experience with the Monoprice MP10 Printer - Now with Removable and Accessible Features! by Corey Krull

It can print quality prints, but the software and manual are sloppy

This printer can print decently without much effort, but all non-critical features have been carelessly implemented by Monoprice. That's why I give the printer 3 stars. The installation instructions that came with the printer are terrible. I had to search the internet and watch someone else's video on how to assemble it. I can understand if Monoprice has already boxed up a few printers and doesn't want to share manuals, but they should at least post their own setup videos on their website. even try. You need to install the app on your phone, then connect your phone to the printer via USB and maybe even rename the Wi-Fi hotspot. What good is a high-quality touchscreen if the GUI does next to nothing? The GUI on the touchscreen is oddly placed and confusing. For example, on the setup screen, the home button returns the printer to its home position and the back button returns to the main menu. On the print screen, the home button leads to the main menu, but there is no back button. The printer comes with a cat test pattern, but the printer only has enough filament to print 1/3 of the part. this test pattern. The filament detector is really unreliable. About once an hour it reports that the printer is out of filament and pauses the print. I've tried both white and red thread, both have the same problem. I ended up turning off the filament detector and luckily that prevents no filament from being reported. Auto Leveling only adjusts the flatness of the print platform. However, you must set the "Global Z-Offset" to generally set how close the print head should be to the print bed. Correct the Global Z Offset *THIS* is the most important part to prevent the printer from turning off your prints, but again the manual is terrible at explaining how to set it. I made 5 bad prints until I found this was the problem. You need to keep decreasing the global Z offset until the strands are flat oval (instead of cylindrical) on the first consecutive print. Initially -0.40 worked for me. I think the bed has settled down over time as -0.63 is now correct for my printer. As others have pointed out, the microSD card comes with an outdated copy of Cura. This copy of Cura has an mp10 profile. You can also download the Monoprice version of Cura from the Monprice website. If you download the same version (or a newer version) directly from Cura, it will not have an mp10 profile. So apparently Monoprice modified Cura. Cura is an AGPL program, but nowhere on Monoprice's website or microSD card is the source code for its modified version provided. Luckily, Monoprice only seems to have changed it by adding their printer profile. I copied the settings to the default copy of Cura for Linux and they work. The main part of a printer profile in Cura is the initial G-code setting. However, the starting G-code in the MP10 profile of Monoprice's version of Cura only works halfway. It contains two commands: G0 X-1 Z0; (move out of print area) G1 X-1; (move a little closer to the print area) These commands have no effect on the MP10. The MP10 will skip any negative x-axis commands, even if it accepted negative numbers, this second move command would still be invalid as the printer would already be at X=-1. I think Monoprice carelessly copied this initial G-code from another printer that supports a negative X-axis. The end result is that before each print, the printer throws some plastic to the end of the print bed and then pulls it back there. where it will print. Half the time this plastic filament falls off and doesn't interfere with the print. The other half of the time it gets into the print area and ruins the first layer of your print. Here's what the initial G-code should be: G21; (metric values) G90; (absolute positioning) M82; (set extruder to absolute mode) M107; (start with fan off) G28; (Set printer to home position) M420 S1; (restore automatic leveling) G92 E0; (reset extruder to 0) G0 Z5 E5 F500; (raise nozzle and fill) G0 X3 Z0; (move to edge of print area) G1 Y60 E8 F500; (Draw fill/wipe line behind) G1 X4; (move a little closer to the printable area) G1 Y10 E16 F500; (pull more primer/wipe) G1 E15 F250; (small retract) G92 E0; (Null Extruder) Monoprice MP select Mini also has some bugs, but this printer is cheap enough and popular enough that there is a large community of people describing how to update and fix it. There is little to no information on how to update the MP10.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
