Review on Manhattan 172851: Audio Speaker and Headset Switching Hub by Debbie Washington

Revainrating 5 out of 5

No Hiss Now (was only due to pilot error)

I bought this to replace a 10 year old Radio Shack I was finally getting tired of constantly pushing/pulling the headphone jack until it was accurate was in the right place allowing both ears of the headset to play sound. The plug should be pulled out about 1/16 inch from its secure position. Given the price of his Manhattan device, it was worth seeing if I could get rid of that annoyance. I was initially disappointed with this device because the noise from the speaker or headphones was unbearable. However, after poking around on the internet (there is no detailed guide for this device as it is usually very easy to use), I found that others were having a similar issue with their PC's noise and sound. I found and followed this helpful tip that got rid of the noise instantly: Since noise is distortion, turn the microphone level down to minimum and turn up the overall computer volume. (It has also been reported that one can simply adjust the little speaker volume icon in the system tray to bring up the audio controls and quickly adjust from there. I've now found the device to work perfectly. I can definitely do it with Dragon Naturally Speaking (as I'm now dictating this review) and online gaming and I've been told that my voice is clear and at the right volume. I also like the little volume knob right on this hub and how you can mute the mic and headset separately and computer speakers and also enable the microphone when using computer speakers instead of a headset.I haven't used the 2.5 jack and don't think I really need it.Agree with some reviewers, could be more reliable but given that I am very careful when using any of my devices, I hope this hub continues works flawlessly for me. If it breaks in the future, I'll come back here and update my review, but for now I'm enjoying the device a lot. I use this with the Logitech G330 gaming headset, by the way, which is by far the most comfortable headset I've ever used. This combination of devices makes dictating long texts a pleasure for my company.
