Review on ๐Ÿ’ป High-Speed USB 3.0 Aluminum Enclosure for M.2 NGFF SSDs with UASP Support by Bernard Foley

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The basic SATA m.2 SSD enclosure works well but gets very hot.

This is a fairly basic M.2 SATA SSD enclosure that requires no tools. As you can see from the description, this only applies to SATA SSDs, not NVME. The case is made of metal, while the part that holds the SSD itself is made of plastic. There is a button you can press to pull out the inside to install or remove an SSD. The SSD is held in place with a plastic clip instead of a screw, and there are additional plastic clips that you can attach if your SSD is shorter than 80mm. There's an activity light that glows through the shutter button, which isn't too awkward. It uses a "hard drive" style USB 3 connector that looks like a very wide micro-USB connector. I've attached a photo of everything in the box with the SSD installed. The controller used here is JMicron JMS567. The speeds look okay for a SATA SSD (see the drive test result in the attached photo). The main complaint I have is that the SSD is located far from the outer case, so there is no way to dissipate heat. This makes the SSD very hot - I measured temperatures up to 69ยฐC during testing, now it's around 64ยฐC when idling. Overall, given the low price, I give it 4 stars - it works. , physically it's well built and the lack of tools is handy, but it gets too hot.
