Excellent stools! I got these because I needed something between the height of a stool and a bar stool and they will go down to 21" with the center bar and 20" without the center bar. My shoulders hurt when I was typing on the computer because all of my chairs were too tall compared to my desks. I was a little hesitant to get these chairs after reading the one star reviews. I'm glad I did. got are pretty solid and they match, not perfect, but then I don't want them to look exactly the same. They should have a rustic look. Wooden seats not only have pre-drilled holes, they also have metal nuts in the pre-drilled holes for the screws to screw into. Having the seats swivel isn't a problem for me as my stools are adjusted to the lowest height with extra cross braces and washers. My stool doesn't wobble. Although they are low. There are also extra pieces (thick washers) that can be attached to the center bars to make the stools more stable. All details have been lost. Black paint does not flake off randomly. The middle bridge is oiled. This is normal mechanics. The rods must be lubricated with oil for the stools to rotate smoothly. Don't touch the middle bands! I have no idea why you would need this, but if you do, wash your hands immediately so the oil doesn't get on anything. I also recommend that you collect the stools before bringing them indoors. The panels on the bottom of the legs are secure. They prevent the chairs from scratching the floor.
