I wish these filters had a little more carbon. If you pull one out of the packaging you will see that there are empty sections for the water to flow through without being filtered. They are good for picking up leftover food, waste and any chunks that contaminate the water. I wouldn't trust this thing to filter my drinking water, but it's designed for an entry-level tank, which is what I have. It's great to get 12 filters for the price and I get to change them quite often. The filters can be easily inserted and removed with the side tab. I like to shake the water and rocks before changing the cartridge so food and debris from the bottom of the tank are sucked through the filter and into the old cartridge before removing it. I have a 1 gallon minibow aquarium. , which comes with their QuietFlow filtration system. Despite the tank being very small, this is a great starter kit, especially for the price. In the future I will probably upgrade to a bigger/nicer tank.
