Review on Xerox Phaser 6510/DNI Color Printer - Ready for Amazon Dash Replenishment and Improved SEO by Stephen Cernatescu

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High quality, fast and affordable printer. But toner is expensive. Xerox support is AWESOME!

Bought Xerox Phaser 6510/DNI to replace Brother MFC-9840CDW, all in one printer, copier, scanner and fax machine. The Brother printer is still working but encountering problems. Demoted it to backup role. Xerox is just a printer. It has no scanner, no copier, no fax. As a printer it's been great so far. I've only had it a few days but the print quality is better than the brothers. Brother's quality is pretty good, but this one is better. Text becomes sharper, and images and graphics appear much sharper and closer to true color. This printer is fast. I printed a 25 page duplex report and when I turned around it was done. Of course, I wasn't in a hurry as I was used to my brother's printer. When I turned around, this printer wasn't half done. Revain started selling this printer in December 2016, so it is a brand new printer with the latest technology. My older brother first came out in 2004. Not much has changed in printer technology since then, but it's a good, fast printer with good graphics and text. Toner cartridges look like they're going to be pretty expensive, but I'm hoping that in the next year or so there will be generic cartridges that will cut costs like they did on my old brother printer. I'm a computer scientist so I don't know. whether it's my innate knowledge or not, the printer was easy to set up for use with ethernet. However, it was difficult to enter the passphrase for my wireless router. I had to scroll through the ASCII chart to find uppercase, lowercase, and special characters. It worked flawlessly despite a one-time entry. The web interface is much simpler. There isn't much to say about that. Simply go to the IP address you set for the printer and view, update or change any settings you want. The printer is much lighter than my old one but still weighs around 40 pounds. I find it easy to move. Maybe it's difficult for a lady. The only thing I don't like about the printer is that the manual controls on the printer itself are not intuitive. I had to find an image with an explanation to understand which button to press for different things. I ended up printing out the menu tree from one of the suggested reports and kept it at the printer until I remembered it. I give it 5 stars because I really like how good the printed pages look and how fast they come out in both single and duplex modes. . Toner price can be an issue, but since I haven't had to deal with it yet, I won't penalize the printer for something that hasn't happened yet. I will update this throughout the year. ----- Update March 2017 -- I've had the printer for a few weeks now and I'm very satisfied. It's fast, quiet, and prints text, graphics, and color better than any laser printer I've ever used. I haven't printed any photos, but everything else he prints looks professional enough that I expect photography to rival inkjet printing. A; So it doesn't seem to use as much toner as I expected. My Brother printer seemed to run out long before the end. This one seems to print more than expected, which is a good thing considering how expensive replacements are. That thing uses a lot of power when it's on. In fact, the lights in my home office dim every time. I don't want to remodel the house, but I could buy a large uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with an AVR (voltage regulator). You don't normally connect a laser printer to a UPS because it uses so much power that it usually requires a fairly large printer. However, I will probably do that so as not to annoy my wife with flickering lights. Note that this is a problem with most large laser printers, not just this particular printer. However, my old Brother MFC9840CDW didn't cause the lights to flicker, so that's not always the case. I still don't like the controls on the printer itself. The icons make no sense to me and there are no words underneath them. However, this is a very minor complaint. I put a copy of the manual on the wall that explains it. One day I will finally remember her. However, most things can be done through the web interface, so I may never have to remember them. If I were to buy a printer again I would buy this BUT with fax/copy/scan capabilities. 2017 Downgrade My one star rating is due to a problem waking the printer from sleep mode. If I don't use the printer for a day or two, next time I have to reset it. It doesn't wake up from sleep mode when I send a print job (get a message that the printer is offline) and pressing the sleep button (for lack of a better word) does nothing. I have to physically unplug it and plug it back in. Very, very annoying. Maybe this is the solution. I do not know. The network has not said anything further about this issue. Let's launch Xerox and see if they help. --------------------------------- November 2, 2017 Stars s 4 down to 5 due to excellent support from Xerox. I submitted a ticket to Xerox Support because I had an issue with the printer going to sleep and not always waking up properly. I really didn't expect anything else to happen other than a guy from India talking to me and not understanding or solving the problem. Boy was I wrong! Xerox Support emailed me within a few hours asking for some configuration information which I printed out and emailed to them. The next day I got a response that everything looked like everything was set up correctly so they sent a technician to my house to fix it. The guy called the next day and we made an appointment for him later in the week. He came on time and replaced the motherboard with a new one. Spent about an hour on it. So far I haven't had any problems. I have NEVER seen a large company take a problem as seriously as Xerox does. I understand their printer could catch fire and I would buy it again just for the fantastic support they provide.
