Review on Premium Redecker Soft Horsehair Bristle Dish Brush Set - Beechwood Handle, 1-1/2-Inch Head, Pack of 2 by Nicole Thomas

The point is to use it like a brush, not a pad.

I grew up with nylon cleaning pads. But 1) bad for the environment as all nylon goes down the drain 2) expensive over time 3) disgusting as it wears out 4) leaves nylon on dishes from time to time. So I figured there must be a better way. How were dishes washed before Nylon? That led me to these brushes, and when I read that they were made in Germany, I was convinced - as a gunsmith, I've long valued German craftsmanship. When I tried them for the first time I was very disappointed. The soap didn't stay on the brush for long, the bristles fell off and the whole brush quickly went flat. Also, I didn't know what to do with that big wet brush. However, I realized that I was trying to use the brush as a pillow. Over time I learned to do this and now I will never go back to pads. Well, pads are still used when you need to scrub hard, but that shouldn't be common (I use a bamboo spatula to scrape really bad build-up off pots, then use a cleaning pad when needed - but that only happens when I burn something, so luckily it's rare). Here's how I do it: 1. After sorting the dishes, I fill a 1 liter metal bowl with soap and hot water. You can use any bowl, even a saucepan, but I like my little metal bowl.2. I swing the brush like the bristle brush I use to shave with my double-edged safety razor. The goal is to build up the fluff and get a nice soap brush.3. I douse all the dishes with hot water and then turn off the water. Start by brushing all the dishes. Don't rub. Let the tips of the bristles do all the work for you. They clean, don't squeeze. brush, brush-brush. dip several times in a bowl of soapy water.4. wash all the dishes. Then clean the metal bowl and brush with hot water until the metal bowl and brush are really clean. HANG THE BRUSH. There is a small metal latch at the end of the brush. I do not use it. I just hang it up with a little nylon string. I've been using the same brush for almost a year now. it's still going great and i love it.
