Review on ☕ GOAT STORY GINA Steel Smart Coffee Brewing Instrument by Leslie Sharp

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Slightly better

Considering the cost difference between GINA and say Chemex (about $200 difference) you would expect the experience to be WOW. They expect it to be easier, faster and less complicated. Maybe you're expecting too much. When my GINA arrived, upon opening it I found that the Cold Drip insert had been pushed so far into the glass carafe that the carafe had cracked and could not be removed without causing further damage. Revain couldn't ship replacement parts so they were kind enough to let me know so I could order directly from Goat Story. But it wasn't a very good first impression. They seem to have some quality control issues. With this first experience, I set about making coffee. I only used the pour method - french press doesn't really work and cold brew seems blurry (should I use _ice_ to control the speed the water flows? What?). GINA makes good coffee and sits nicely on the counter. Good coffee, not better than Chemex, but good. However, their app and digital/bluetooth watch face are pretty raw. The scale tends to fluctuate wildly for no apparent reason - it jumps instantly from 45g of coffee to 1050g and then back to 45g. The app requires me to create an account and log in to brew coffee. He regularly forgets settings and has a clear lack of intelligent responses (for example, he expects anything from 200g of water to 700g of water to be brewed in exactly 4 minutes). quite thin and doesn't hold the temperature well.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Approximately
