Review on SuperHandy Electric Portable Polyethylene Brushless by Tommy Woods

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works as expected but needs a longer cord

The Super Handy portable winch fits our needs well. My husband has an ATV that he has to load into the back of a pickup truck from time to time when it can't be loaded onto a truck. Previously he has used a manual hoist or electric puller to pull the quad up the ramps and onto the truck. He was looking for an easier solution to this task and this tool gave him the result. The rope used is a polyethylene plastic rope, which has advantages and disadvantages compared to conventional steel rope. The plastic cable is lighter, helping to reduce the weight of the device. In the event of a cable break, a plastic cable is safer than a steel cable, since each of them "whips" when the tension is suddenly released. On the other hand, synthetic rope is more easily abraded and damaged by rocks, sand and mud, so care must be taken when using a winch not to damage it. One suggestion to the manufacturer is to make the cable longer. At 20 feet, this is definitely the short side. The winch comes with a winch block, a 48V 2Ah Li-Ion battery and a charger. The battery is supplied partially charged and must be charged before using the winch for the first time. The battery has a built-in battery level indicator that shows the charge level at the touch of a button. Working with a winch consists in placing the block on a fixed attachment point (in our case in the cab). To allow the winch to be centered on our truck body, the hook was attached to a descent rope stretched between two attachment points in the truck bed. Once the device is secured, the cable is pulled out and attached to this winch. There is a clutch release handle that allows you to easily pull the cable. After fastening, the clutch handle returns to the fastening position and the circuit breaker is switched on. Whether the winch retracts or extends can be set using a button. When you are ready to operate the winch, you must slide and hold the safety lock switch and then press the start switch to begin winching. Rolling our ATV into the back of a truck was uneventful. The winch is slow and there is noticeable strain on the winch when loaded but that is to be expected. The clutch brake held the ATV securely when the winch stopped halfway to the ramp. Everything worked as expected and my husband was glad he didn't have to manually winch the quad up.
