I use a wide band to attach the sandpaper to the sanding block. First I glue a piece of laminate to the sanding block. The tape adheres better to non-porous laminate than to untreated pulpwood. I like this method more than blocks that curl up the edges of the sandpaper and kind of pinch them. This creates a small sandpaper radius at the ends. Also the sandpaper moves a bit because of the clamp. These effects are useless if you want to grind something flat. Due to the smooth surface of the laminate, the sandpaper can be easily removed when replacement is required. You can also feel more of your work when the sandpaper is taped to the block, as if it's just resting on the block.
