I don't get why these manufacturers of these converters don't do direct 480i to 480p and 576i to 576p conversion.

If I am not mistaken, HDMI supports interlaced versions of these resolutions as well.Most HDTVs can size 720x480 to be 4:3 or 16:9.However very few HDTVs can size 1280x720 and 1920x1080, which are this converter's only output options, to be 4:3.This also doesn't do any HD 4:3 resolution like 1280x960.So if you want to watch 4:3 content, which most stuff was distriubted as in the era of when composite and s-video were big, it can only be viewed as stretched and out of shave to 16:9 with this converter device.
