I don't know if all upright mice have the same problem but this one is poorly designed. When my hand and arm are in a natural comfortable position, which these vertical mice are designed to facilitate, the mouse is actually pointing about 20 degrees to the left. So when the mouse pointer is at the bottom of the screen and I press my hand straight, the pointer on the screen actually moves to the exact top right corner. You can mimic what I'm trying to explain with a regular mouse. Just lift it 20 degrees to the left and push your hand straight forward. Or take a 12 inch ruler or stick, close your eyes and put your hand on the table. The ruler naturally leans to the left. Now rotate your hand until the ruler is pointing straight ahead. This is of course uncomfortable. If I want the pointer to move strictly vertically on the screen, I have to rotate my wrist unnaturally to move the mouse, eliminating that natural comfortable angle. Claims support. Also, this mouse is NOT designed for a large hand. I have a large hand and this thing is still small. BTW - Smart Maker allows the user to rotate the bottom sensor and then lock it to customize it enable preferences as to whether the mouse position is still correctly tracked.
