It works exactly as it should when used. You move it down until it touches the bottom pan and you stop. For the guy (Brian) on November 30, 2018 who gave it 1 star and said it had a design flaw, it was actually a user with a design flaw. He thought the dipstick would reach the handle. NO! What he did was push it up to the handle. This A/T dipstick covers 32 different makes/models which also cover a wide range of years, engines and transmission types so obviously it will be long for some vehicles. This is just to check the fluid and you remove it until the next time you want to check the A/T fluid level again.
