Review on Ducati 1299 Panigale Fender Eliminator by Dee Rawls

It looks pretty cool when left tight and installed properly

I bought this for my 2018 959 Panigale and returned it shortly after. Here are the pros: It looks pretty cool when stuck and installed properly. The LEDs are bright and the built-in license plate light is well placed. He removes the hideous "whale story" that haunts the Panigales. Here are the cons: 1st delivery, it came in an unsealed box from NRC, of course there was foam inside and nothing was too scratched, but also that part of the 3M adhesive (red stripe) started to peel off, most likely due to poor handling of the carrier . The parts were not sealed, just screws, bolts and washers. 2-documentation-missing. It's not really necessary as everything is more or less straight forward, but for a beginner you might get stuck. .4 installation and installation. Removing the factory fender is very easy. I recommend having an extra long hex screwdriver to loosen the two screws under the seat and make sure you have a magnetic tool to pry out those factory screws/washers. Well as far as installing this NRC unit I really felt like I should just put it in the box and send it back. But after looking at the awful factory wing, I decided to move on. Bad idea. First, they expect you to use a single tapered screw (which is almost impossible to fit flush on the bottom of the device) and tape to secure this device to the bike. They don't use any factory mounting bolts at all and I have no idea why, that would make this 1 star kit a 4 star kit. Instead, they expect you to take that single screw and put it in the same hole you run the wiring through! Unbelievable. Also, they expect you to break the single steel disc they place over those wires to secure the device in place. It could potentially cut and definitely scratch your innards. It makes no sense. If you're installing this, or about to install it, and are therefore reading this with a grain of salt, you should do what I did: make or buy a flat cruciform washer with a matching rubber washer to thread the screw through and secure at the bottom. with a small washer. You can now route cables freely between the washer holes and the rubber washer protects the interior of the bike from cosmetic damage while holding it in place (clutch). After this test, all you have to rely on for a secure fit is a few strips of thin 3M adhesive. Well, if you've ridden a Panigale a few times, you know how hot it gets and how much heat it puts out, including the exhaust system. Yes, heat is good for adhesion, but such heat is counterproductive. In just 2 days of installing this device, it started disconnecting at the other end. As dust and debris accumulated, the area only got worse. I ended up taking it off, it was easy - the tape barely stuck. Also note that this is pretty important - the factory underside of the tail dangles a bit. It responds to using these factory mounting points for mounting. So if you stick an extra piece of aluminum on it, it will dangle even more. tl:dr - Nice concept but terrible facility and quality. It shouldn't be more than $75 (since it's a Ducati). $180+ is unrealistic for what you actually get, so 1 star instead of 2. Recommendation: Buy a Motobox device if you're looking for a high quality version of it that's really well designed. It's significantly more expensive ($350), but it also goes to the Ducati, also known as a beautiful car. Why take shortcuts and shrink? By the way, I don't work for Motobox. I'm just an engineer with a sense of empathy.
