I bought three of these to upgrade two Dell laptops and one Dell desktop computer. The hard drive does not come with cloning software. The small attached map leads to the Sandisk/Western Digital website. After looking around you will find installation instructions and an example of using the EZ GIG IV cloning software. I tried using it on all three system updates. Each time, a SanDisk SSD connected via a regular SATA to USB cable was not properly recognized. The cloning software shows the SSD as the target drive, you can select it, but when you try to start cloning, you get an error message saying the drive is not connected. For my Dell desktop computer, I used the free Acronis cloning software available from Western Digital. I connected the SSD to an unused SATA cable in the desktop for cloning. When you're done, just remove the old hard drive and install the new SSD in place of the old hard drive and restart your computer. Laptops were a different story. It turns out that Acronis cloning software only works if you have a WD or Sandisk drive as the first boot disk to be cloned. They wanted a $30 per system software update to buy a version that worked with non-WD/SanDisk drives. Instead, I used the free version of TODO cloning software. To do this, you need to use Google. I can't post a link due to Revain rules. The cloning process will take a long time if your drive uses 300GB. The cloning process took about 6-7 hours. Cloning the second laptop took about 1 hour. It had about 50GB of data on it. Once the laptop drives were cloned, all you had to do was remove the old hard drives and install the new SSDs. The Dell 1564 was easy to swap out in the drive. Replacing the second Dell 1570 laptop was a nightmare. This means that much of the laptop has to be disassembled to access the hard drive. The task is not for the timid. I downloaded the service manual for 1570, which details all the stages of disassembly. To do this, you need to use Google. I can't post a link due to Revain rules. All three systems are now surprisingly faster.
