Review on APC P7GT Power Saving Discontinued Manufacturer by Justin Gomez

I bought 2 of these to automatically turn off my home theater equipment when not in use. I was comparing the APC model to Smartsurge products here, but chose APC because I've had good luck with their products in the past and there wasn't a huge $1 difference. I was dismayed when the packaging said they were only suitable for computers, but I've used them on devices with as little as 24 watts difference from standby to operating voltage (mostly audio amplifiers as the main outlet) with no problems. I haven't tested them on devices with lower derating and can't say how much derating is required to properly activate the slave outputs. Laptops may cause problems due to lower standby differential and due to power consumption when charging the battery, which may cause the switch to malfunction. it is included in your energy savings/payback calculations. Overall I am very happy with the product and am considering purchasing more for additional uses.
