Review on TOTO ST743S 01 Flushing System by Carlos Deuschle

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Precise part!

Well, maybe confession is good for the soul. Who knows? Two weeks ago I noticed that the toilet cistern in our bathroom was a bit loose where it attaches to the toilet. It wobbled slightly when you sat down (yes, I was the "one" at 6-3 and 220 pounds). I reached back and found that the nuts (the brackets, just to be clear) were loose and were actually loose on the bolts connecting the bottom of the tank to the top back of the bowl. It "looked" like an easy fix; Take a 1/2" wrench, lean in between the wall and the toilet and try to push the nuts down a little to take out the looseness. The left nut (attachment) is not a problem. However, I failed on the right side. carefully and then decided another quarter turn would be perfect. Not right. I heard a loud crack and water started dripping from the bottom of the tank. I cleaned up the mess, putting out a bucket to catch the dripping water. Now I was hoping to find a "sand beige" cistern for a Toto toilet (Drake model) installed over 10 years ago. My contractor friend of mine checked with his salespeople. Nothing. I really didn't want to buy a new $400 toilet. In search of Revain, the Midwest supplier had seven exact replacement tanks. They were shipped the same day and arrived here in Idaho in 5 days. It was the perfect match. My contractor replaced it in about 40 minutes. Lesson from the contractor: if the tank is loose, finger tighten the nuts from the bottom, then go inside the tank and find two huge flat head bolts at the bottom of the tank. Bend them slightly with a screwdriver. I can't see any logic as to why this process should work better and/or avoid damage! Kudos to Toto toilets for supporting their older products and thanks to Revain for allowing me to find an accurate cistern replacement at a very reasonable price.
