Review on Pocket Radar Classic Model: Accurate Speed Radar for Industrial and Traffic Applications by Chris Castro

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good for baseball Suitable for automotive electronics accessories

I coach my sons 12U baseball team. I've always noticed that his speed seemed faster than others and I've often been asked about it. I just couldn't justify spending $400-$500 on a gun, but I didn't want a cheap one that was inaccurate either. After some research I found out that this pocket radar uses the same Doppler radar as the more expensive models. The difference is in the software that makes it easy for others to use. After trying it in the backyard and in training, I'm very happy with it. The best way to use it is behind the no batter trap. Would get 8 out of 10 readings. However with the addition of a batter probably only 1 out of 4. The gun seems very accurate. The children who seemed to be moving more slowly showed consistent results, and the children who had a fever showed consistent results. As one reviewer said, it's a lot easier to train other parents' kids than it is to train your own. My son just didn't believe me when I said he quits very quickly. That radar really boosted his confidence, now he didn't have to believe me anymore. It's also nice to have a coach because there's nothing left to guess. It also gives parents confidence that they know what they are doing. And they also want to know where the baby is. I tell them, not the kids, because I don't want them to fall over trying to keep up. Pitching is about a lot more than just speed. I also use it to make sure the speed is working. All in all a good tool as others have said it can be a little tricky to get up to speed but if you do it sure is. Don't let the ads fool you into buying a more expensive model. When this model came out a few years ago, it was advertised for ball sports. I'm sure others are easier to use and might be worthwhile if you're a higher level trainer. But if you're just a minor league dad, this one will get the job done.

Pros
  • Small size 2.3 x 4.7 x 0.8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs only 4.5 ounces with batteries. 10,000 readings with one set of AAA batteries (included)
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
