Review on πŸ“Ί DISH MT2 OTA Module: Boost Your TV Experience with Enhanced Electronics by Stephen Cernatescu

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Cannot access/watch OTA channels when satellite signal is COMPLETELY lost

Advantages: - Combines OTA channels with existing dish programming menu - Allows my Dish Vip722 DVR to add 2 additional OTA channels or record 4 events in total (if I ever need to record more than 2 events at once one day). However, be aware that the OTA signal may change and fade, so you may miss part of the recording (like in my case). Negatives: - A PARTIAL loss of satellite signal allows you to watch OTA channels, but the COMPLETE loss of satellite signal makes my Vip722 receiver completely dead. So an OTA cable splitter was required (one to the Dish MT2 module and the other to the TV). This is a great "show stopper" as I have relied on MT2 to eliminate the need for a separate direct OTA connection to the TV and having to switch TV inputs if the satellite signal is lost during a storm. - Reduced OTA image quality. Since OTA is a raw signal (i.e. uncompressed), the image quality of OTA is much higher than that of the Dish receiver (higher contrast ratio, deeper blacks, natural tones, etc.). Unfortunately, MT2 reproduces exactly the same picture quality as the Dish signal. Now that I think about it, I think it was to be expected. Otherwise, people will always watch the OTA channel and not the Dish channel. Price. My Dish Vip211K receivers already have MT2 functionally built in, so I'm not sure if the price for MT2 is justified. No no: Price/performance did not justify the investment and the MT2 module was sent back.
