[Edited and changed to four stars. See below.] Easy to learn and use, unobtrusive on the windshield. Good data entry with type-ahead. Good database although it led me to two empty STRAND sites listed as popular fast food restaurants. This only happened once out of about 20 attempts during a 2700 mile ride. My issue with this unit is that if you're driving in a congested city (like Halifax, NC), it loses ALL the satellites on the fly. with many trees and tall buildings. Often in this situation, when driving, he lost the lane when stopped at an intersection. Then the display would simply drift hundreds of feet toward the area, losing its northbound orientation and sometimes not picking up satellites until it began to move — sometimes a half block or more. At a difficult intersection or junction, you can make a mistake. As long as there are no trees or other obstacles this will work fine, but at congested, complex city intersections this will invariably fail for me. It's not good if the car is full of people. I've been using GPS in cars for about 20 years and never before has a GPS receiver behaved like this. As I sit here at my desk in my stucco house, I have two other Android tablet GPS devices tracking up to 11 satellites, but sad little TomTom sits "waiting for a valid GPS fix." all the time i spent writing this review. I plugged the device into a USB port on my PC while deleting favorites from my recent trip. It stayed plugged in and turned on while I was writing the initial review. Later I turned it back on to enter some other data and it tracked 5-6 satellites and worked fine. (!) It was attached to my glass table in the same place the whole time. This morning I received a comment from TomTom that updates could improve sensitivity. personal computer When I first bought the device I connected it to a PC and downloaded the TomTom app, but no matter what happened during that time it didn't result in an improvement in sensitivity until my trip to Canada. I don't know why it became less sensitive immediately after purchase, but thanks to Hanna from TomTom for the quick reply. All is well. Currently.
