Review on 64GB MTS800 Transcend SATA III 6Gb/s 80 mm M.2 SSD (TS64GMTS800) by Virgilio Feliciano

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect for HTPC Best for internal SSDs

I've never used Transcend products, but this M.2 SSD is relatively cheap compared to other big brands. So I ordered the 512GB 80mm version for my HTPC build. Installation ------------ The installation into the M.2 slot of my ASUS H97I-Plus went smoothly. Windows 8.1 found the SSD with no problems and the OS installation completed quickly. long) Version with "B&M Edge Connector". The "B button" edge is 6 pins wide and the "M button" edge is 5 pins wide. Compatibility was my biggest concern but I decided to give it a try anyway and it worked. It seems that the ASUS H97I-Plus M.2 socket can only accept B&M and M dongles for SSDs. Performance and Power Consumption ----------- -------- I didn't run any disk benchmark software to get the advertised 570 MB/s sequential read and 450 MB/s sequential write (for 512GB version). But the real-world experience isn't that different from any other SSD I've used. SSDs are just FAST! The power consumption is very low. My HTPC build consists of ASUS H97I-Plus, Intel Celeron G1850, 2x4GB Kingston HyperX DDR3-1333 modules and a 512GB M.2 SSD. Using the P3 P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor, I see an average power consumption of less than 20W for the entire HTPC. Conclusion ---------- Overall, this is an excellent M.2 SSD for its low cost and great performance. . I can't say anything about durability yet. 5 stars for now.
