Sporadic from day one

Windshield wipers sporadic from day one but the car has never been exposed to rain. Now, with cooler temperatures, morning dew and fog, wipers are a must. Then all of a sudden they just stopped. Took out the motor assembly and found that the washer gear (new) spat out the cam pin that engages the washer and locked it in place. Lift up the nylon driven gear. Carefully installed and didn't even use the washer. Could have raced on a used engine but wanted a fresh one and here we are.
