Review on Miady Weatherproof Electrical Receptacle Motorhome by Trevor Garrett

Design flaws make installation difficult.

This was my second RV socket installation. I'm a seasoned handyman, not an electrician, but I deeply regretted this purchase when we set about installing it. Three design problems: 1. Cutouts at the bottom are not real cutouts. They're more like a stamp. You need to use a punch tool set to open them. If you don't have one, you're screwed. This is unlike other RV power supplies or most outdoor power supplies from USA manufacturers. Knockout holes are easy to knock out. We did our project over the weekend and didn't have any knockouts, so we had to use a couple of drill bits and even a "beaver" to make the PVC pipe hole big enough. It was a nightmare that took a long time to complete and could have been avoided if only MFGR had put real knockouts in a factory can. By true knockouts I mean ones that can be opened with a hammer and a large screwdriver.2. There is a very, very small custom metric screw that holds the bezel in place. Other manufacturers use a standard sheet metal screw. If you lose this little cog now or in the future, it's game over. The bezel cannot be attached. Stupid design flaw.3. The mounting holes on the back of the box do not match the standard treated wood 4x4 rod most commonly used for RV outlets in the United States. The steel of the box is very thick (a plus in construction) but it's difficult to pierce and you don't have to. If you are using a 4X4 rack you will need to drill new holes or use a 4X6 or 6x6 rack instead, which is very uncommon. MFGR can easily add additional mounting holes to the back of the box or position them closer to the center. Because of this design flaw, we had to use angled screws. .Three hits (construction error) and you're out. If it wasn't for the rush I would have returned it to Revain and bought a different brand.
