Overpowering chemical odor!

I bought 3 of these carriers to transport 5 guinea pigs to and from the vet. 2 came with an insert but honestly it's so thin and stiff I still have to use my own inserts in all three. It was easy for my husband to assemble the tote bags but there is such a strong chemical smell that I left them outside in the fresh air all day hoping the smell would wear off. I just brought them in a few hours later and they still smell just as strong. My pigs have an exam tomorrow and I'm really worried about the strong smell. I hope this product is safe! The porters are nice, but I'm afraid. Let's hope they air out overnight.
