I've tried them once for hand applique and will never go back to any other brand (and the blanket I shared it with is new too). As for me, I've found other brands to fade quickly or break well before their acceptable lifespan. Black Gold glides over fabric (like a hot knife through butter, as the saying goes, thanks to longitudinal grooves and coating), stays sharp and rarely breaks. It is recommended that you first wipe the fabric or pass the needle through the fabric to remove the black that may peel off, but there is no black peeling problem after the first time.
