Review on Sony DVP NS500V SACD DVD Player by Anthony Hobby

Poor reliability and warranty

I have one. Sony DVD players. Sony claims 1 year parts/90 days labor warranty. First, after 5 months, the machine just stopped working. Second, to send it in for warranty repair, Sony charges $92 for the labor, plus I have to pay the cost of shipping the product. They don't assess the problem and then give you an estimate so you can decide if you want a repair. Third, when I noticed the repair costs were approaching the cost of a new machine, their support rep told me I should have purchased an extended warranty. My suggestion: buy a more reliable product, not Sony. Check the warranty upon purchase. Choose a product with 1 year parts and labor. Otherwise, ask how much the manufacturer charges for warranty service. Beware of misleading warranty policies.

Pros
  • DVD players and recorders
Cons
