We needed to replace our outdated very basic steamer. Since we use it a lot, we wanted a good one. We looked at various vegetable bowl rice steamers, but the vegetable and food bowls were quite small and felt like an afterthought. Some steamers were huge and this created storage problems. The Oster showed promise and we bought it hoping it would work well. Yes. Oster makes several similar vapes and there are many reviews of different models here at Revain. They are extremely positive. People interested in buying this item should look at reviews of similar models. This steamer seems to be very well thought out and designed. A translucent window on the front allows you to see the water level in the tank, and a convenient fill hole allows you to add water on the fly. You can steam for about 50 minutes before needing a refill - enough for rice and most vegetables. The digital timer is easy to use and works great. Next to the heating element is a pod that holds hot water, so it takes just a few seconds to start and no energy is wasted heating the entire water tank. It's very easy to clean. Our previous vaper's tank had many nooks and crannies for dirt to collect. Oster has very few of these and they are cleaned with a simple cloth. There is a tray for collecting water flowing from food, which is very convenient. The steam containers can be cleaned in the dishwasher. Versatility is a big advantage. The oval shape is great because you don't have to trim long foods like asparagus and crab legs to fit. One tray has recesses for eggs. The two trays can be stacked on top of each other so that several dishes can be steamed at the same time. There is also an insert for a rice bowl. How it works? Nice! Meat and vegetables are steamed evenly and, as steamer users know, taste great. Both white and brown rice cook perfectly. I was concerned that cooking times would need to be adjusted here at high altitude (Colorado), but the times recommended in the manual are pretty accurate for us. This is a versatile addition to our kitchen. I know you can get a pot steamer, but I prefer not to waste space on my stovetop burner; Oster cheers indignantly while I prepare the rest of the meal. All in all we're very happy with this purchase and for around $30 at Target it was pretty good value.
