Don't let the curved shape of this lantern fool you. Unless it's pointed straight at you like a flashlight, it's not as bright (and visible) as it should be. I used to have a "real" strobe and was concerned that this LED version might not be bright enough. In fact it is very bright and I have no doubt that this is a description of long range visibility. What the description doesn't tell the buyer is that it's only effective if you point it in the direction you want it to be seen. My old traditional flash could be viewed vertically and from all directions (360 degrees). When setting up this lantern you'd better be on the plane directly overhead if you expect to see it from miles away. sooo If your vehicle leaves you at the curb waiting for a tow truck, you can mount this light on the roof of a traffic-facing vehicle. However, if you want to attach it to your life jacket while swimming, I recommend you choose a different flash. one that is visible from all directions.
