Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Gates PowerGrip Premium Timing Belt Component Kit TCK284 by Mike Betzing

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worked flawlessly - belts, hoses and pulleys

This was the first time I had a Timing belt with replaced this kit, and this is on my friend's 2005 Hyundai Elantra. I've always had good luck with Gates products so I didn't hesitate to purchase this kit, especially at a great price. Went like clockwork. Came with a chart and torque specs which came in handy. A Gates kit is also available, including a water pump, but after 60,000 miles we decided to ditch it. I wish Revain wore extra straps on Gates 3, but we had to use Dayco. Dayco is fine, but they don't make the exact same size as the OEM for the AC belt, so they recommend the next size up, which led to an issue where the AC tensioner was actually touching the AC compressor pulley when tightened . We had to replace the Dayco recommended 5040338 with 5040333. It is half an inch shorter (last number is tenths of an inch long). It was just a little handy, but it didn't really matter. The half-inch shorter belt worked great with the tensioner adjustment.

Pros
  • Gates warranty matches OE timing belt change intervals - not just for parts but labor and other costs involved
Cons
  • Reliability
