My third graders never played boys! Growing up in the 50's and 60's I enjoyed playing jacks and I wanted my students to have the same experience. The best part was that I had to sit on the floor with them and teach them how to play jacks and I realized I'm still pretty good at it! A bit like you can still ride a bike I guess. I had fun with them a few times and they fell in love with the game. Of course on bad weather days we stay at home and get board games, but about half the class wants to play jacks (I bought 4 sets) and/or sticks! I love seeing them. Perform non-technology activities, interact with each other, develop hand-eye coordination, and use your mind actively rather than passively.
