Not the lowest calorie diet dog food

Exactly two weeks ago I adopted my first dog, Maple, in about 12 years from a rescue organization. She is a four year old mixed breed. We think it's a German Shepherd and a Shiba Inu. She was generally healthy except that she was overweight. The vet estimates her healthy weight at 50 to 60 pounds. She currently weighs 85 pounds, so she has a long journey ahead of her. Maple HATED the Purina diet food she was fed at the sanctuary. The staff recommended that I take her to the vet to develop a weight loss plan (including a new food). I was warned that pet food would be expensive (especially if it's prescription only). The nice lady from the rescue organization also told me that her mother's overweight puppy eats Natural Balance Fat Dogs. So while I was waiting for my first appointment with Maples at the vet, I ordered a small pack of Fat Dog from Revain. As I was warned, the vet recommended an expensive prescription dog food: Hill's Prescription Diet Metabolic Canine. I bought a small bag from the vet (costs more than a large Fat Dogs bag at Revain!). I also bought several cans of wet food for her. It turns out that Maple loves them both. Even though she weighs 85 pounds, I was advised to feed her enough food for a 60 pound dog (3.25 cups per day). Here are the pros and cons of Fat Dogs versus Hill's Prescription Diet Metabolic Canine from my experience as a newbie dog mom (again?): PROS: - Tastes great! my dog loves it - The price is unbeatable. - Same recommended daily portion per day (3.25 cups per day) - Delivered straight to your door with Revain! Better than lugging food home from the vet. - No prescription required. CONS: - No wet food option. - No treatment options. - Not the lowest calorie per cup diet dog food, as some have incorrectly stated in their reviews: 1,260 calories/8 oz cup Hill's Prescription Diet Metabolic Canine 2,275 calories/8 oz cup Kirkland Signature Super Premium Healthy Weight Dog Food (Costco Brand) 3,300 kcal/ 8 oz cup Fat Dog
