This caliper is old school. There's no dial or digital display, and anything under 1/16 of an inch is anyone's guess. This is stainless steel construction and the graduations (not graduations) are etched (laser?) into the stainless steel so they don't rub off. Measuring surfaces made of stainless steel do not wear out and do not give false readings. This is not accurate enough for the machine shop who needs more increments for more accurate readings. This is not a small disposable plastic item in a shirt pocket used by doctors etc to roughly measure tumours, clogged arteries or enlarged hearts etc flat ruler if you don't have a cut end to work with. For better readability, the moving part should be marked with a sharp edge to facilitate alignment. they can be seen for example 1/8; 1/4; 1/2; 3/4 on the bottom of the ruler. Unfortunately, the markings on the moving part are inaccurate. The leftmost marker is not at zero; the eight 1/16" marks on the moving part actually add up to a total of 7/16" and the ten millimeter marks on the moving part actually total nine millimeters. Another complaint I have is that the collet nut needs Loctite or some other method to keep it from loosening and losing. Perhaps the bolt should have been made longer and trimmed at the end to hold the nut in place if it came loose. In addition, a longer slotted screw can be used for the C-shaped metal clip. The product has no country of origin but is manufactured by Assorts Machine Tools in Delhi, India. Note to the manufacturer: The body label must not contain two L's in the word "caliper".
