I use it to store my Nintendo Switch without any joycons attached. (Perhaps you could put the joycons in the grid area, although you'd probably be pressing buttons/joysticks.) I don't like joycons, so I basically ditch them and will exclusively use a professional controller. My current setup includes "switch blade" rail guards attached to the switch. Instead of the grille, I placed the power button A (question box) in the gaming case, the perfect depth for the occasion. I also have an amiibo card case in the grid area (or a small Anker battery).
