This is a great little filter for 5 or 10 gallon shrimp tanks where you don't have a lot of waste and don't need a lot of washing power. Shrimp also like to eat the film that grows on their sponges. I would also use it for an aquarium up to 15 gallons only used for growing additional plants, maybe with a fish or two at most. Eg beta version etc. The downside is of course that it is just a floating particle filter. It doesn't decarbonize or remove ammonia, and you need a separate air pump to run it.
