Terrible unit that gets too hot

Bought two of these for my daughters to use with the bunk beds we gave them. The long cord and also that it's black was a big plus so I could easily hide it behind one of the dark brown shelves but they have an iPad and when they charge it with it it gets VERY hot and charges slowly when loaded. I wish I could find a better solution.
