Excellent product for bedding

I bought this as a cheaper sand replacement and it's a great product. In fact, it's much better than sand for my purposes. I could buy sand at a hardware store and get a lot more for less money, but I just don't need 50lbs of sand, especially as the sand is likely to be wet, needs drying before use, it's too big to store on. my house, and when it dries it will probably dust a lot too. Designed for use with small reptiles, this product is already clean, dry and dust free, so a big plus compared to lots of sand. The quantity of product is also perfect - any hobbyist (I bought mine to use as a base for miniatures for wargames and other dioramas and landscaping projects) can keep this quantity close to their workbench (as opposed to a 50 pound sack of sand) and if I'm not mistaken, it's the same as what some companies sell as "railway ballast" even though it was a lot cheaper. It's sold as five dry liters and I'm guessing it weighs about ten pounds and comes in a plastic bag that's about 1 foot high, 7 inches wide and 4 or 5 inches thick (depending on how it's installed). It's pretty much the same as Woodland Scenics' medium-ballast product (perhaps right between their small and medium sizes), but the 32-ounce WS Shaker pitchers in Revain sell for about double the price, and this pack contains as much product as many four or five of them. Five times more for half the price and the same thing on top of that? I am definitely a satisfied customer! I'm sure it's also perfect for our little squirming and squirming pets as that's what it was designed for, but it's also perfect for my hobby. After all, it's the same one I've been using for years with great success, and I couldn't be happier to get so much for such a great price (six dollars with change, which is about the price of rather small brown bags of ballast from WS and even more big bottle shakers). For wargaming enthusiasts who need something like sand for their miniatures, that's a lot. This bag alone will probably cover an entire 4ft x 8ft sheet of plywood (the size of the wargame countertops I fight on) with considerable residue, or if used purely for coasters it will almost certainly cover the rest for me of my hobby life . . ;-) As with regular WS brown ballast, PVA glue and acrylic paints (as well as glazes from Vallejo, Citadel and Army Painter) work great, although some may like the color just for what it is. I'm very glad I discovered this and would highly recommend it to lovers of tabletop wargames and military miniatures.
