I used this to hang a 6 foot ladder on the wall at the top step. The mount needs to be attached to a stand (not just drywall). So if you want to place the stairs in a specific place, you need to attach boards to nearby stands and attach this bracket to the tree. That's all well and good, but for a ladder, the slot holding the step is too wide for the ladder to stand stable against the wall. I fixed this by drilling two holes in the front of the bracket and filling most of the slot with a 1x1 piece of wood protruding past the ends of the bracket. Much better now. However, the mount is solidly built and holds a decent weight. I added a few more screws to the top of the bracket as I didn't think just one on top and one on the bottom would hold up over time and multiple cycles of removing and hanging the ladder.
