Better performance for a lot less money

This is a great screen. I use a plastic I got years ago. After replacing all my plastic food containers with glass bowls for food safety reasons, I decided it was time to do the same with my colander, which needs to be able to withstand contact with boiling hot liquids. I originally came to Revain expecting to purchase a similar product from RSVP (I recently stumbled upon product reviews from America's Test Kitchen recommending RSVP a few years ago). BUT then I noticed this one from LiveFresh. When I bought it, this screen was $7 less than RSVP, which is about 27% cheaper! And IMO this LiveFresh is the best product, which I will elaborate on below. Note that the steel appears to be 18-8, not 18-10 as the description says. I base this conclusion on this website: http://www.bosunsupplies.com/StainlessInfo2/ which states that "Type 304" and "18-8" are two ways of describing the same steel. This steel is used in all areas related to food. (And I mean ALL types - fruit juice makers, meat grinders, stainless steel countertops, pots and pans, etc etc - read the page if you want to know more. Or google "steel 304" and see your own results. ) I've come to the conclusion that steel is fine for a colander, noting that LiveFresh also offers a lifetime guarantee on this product. The steel feels solid and is unlikely to bend with normal use. The strainer is smooth both inside and out - nothing to catch on kitchen towels. The handles are riveted, very strong and flush with the side of the strainer. Some users with relatively large hands might prefer the large grip strap, but it's big enough for my four fingers. (The loop measures 3 and 15/16 inches at its widest point, on mine.) The holes on this LiveFresh strainer are 2mm in diameter, according to the tag that came with the product from the manufacturer. They seem too big to me. large for rinsing uncooked quinoa, but small enough for almost everything else, including draining cooked orzo pasta and rinsing uncooked short grain rice (I have a fine mesh strainer for rinsing quinoa if this product isn't good enough for that). ) The base steel ring is welded to the base and the product sits firmly and evenly on my countertop. Two large holes are punched in this LiveFresh product. So if you put a colander on the bottom of the sink and put both hands on the hot pot of pasta and water that you need to drain, there's less chance of water dripping. in food after contact with the shell. They are designed to allow water to run down the sides of the base ring. (The RSVP strainer has a solid base ring with no holes.) My strainer had small cosmetic scratches on each handle near the attachment points where the handles make contact with the bowl. To me, this does not guarantee a star reduction or return the product for a replacement. But I'm just mentioning it in case it might break the deal for others. You can order the strainer in a separate order as the only item in the box or specify the type of packaging you would like to avoid cosmetic issues. My colander is kept in a closet instead of hanging on the wall, so makeup doesn't bother me. (My definition of "makeup" in this case is scratches that are barely noticeable when I run my fingernail over them, and grabbing a towel isn't enough.) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
