Quality Control Issues

I really like the idea of this tool and would love to have it. So much so that I've ordered it twice in the last week and a half. However, none of the blocks worked. The first came right away. I put in the included batteries and when I turned it on the display showed 4980, pressing any button once did nothing and if I held the power button down the display switched to 8888. At that point every button I pressed was blanking pressed, 8 (888, 88 , 8), then show Err. I requested and received a return authorization and received a full refund when the device was returned. Realizing that the failed unit was a single unit, I placed a new order. Once again it arrived quickly. I opened it up and installed the batteries that came with it, after checking their voltage (3.2 volts). The device could not be switched on. I tried for about a minute but nothing happened except the batteries seemed to be warm. I checked the voltage again and the batteries read 2.7 volts. I put new energizers in the block, it wouldn't start, the batteries got hot, then it read 2.8 volts. The device seems to have some kind of internal short circuit. I am currently awaiting authorization to return this unit. I'm not sure I'll risk a third device, I really want this tool, but there seem to be quality control issues.
